Hot in the oven…..

Friday, July 25th, 2008

I left old school forging behind when I got tired of messing with something called clinker, the mass of un-burnable crap (oxide from the steel usually) mixed in with the coal. My studio has a gas fired forge that just heats stuff up real quick. See my forge in the background, bent pieces in the foreground. My studio is pretty small and I combine woodworking and metal working all in one space. If you know about forging, you’ll notice my anvil is out of place. I move it to where it belongs when I need it.

Black Ped top……

Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Right now I’m trying to get some pedestal tops going; some are concrete, some straight cement, some are terrazzo things. Just waiting for the curing to happen so I can grind them down. Can’t wait. It’s incredible watching as the glass or stones appear when the thin top layer is slowly ground away.

This is the latest black pigmented top in the new mold.

Where do we go from here?

Monday, July 14th, 2008

This thing is going to be sitting around awhile until I can figure out how I’m going to finish it. It’s top is 4 inch thick South Florida mahogany. As it sits, it’s slowly getting darker and darker. Eventually it will be almost black.

Mr. Wonky Stool comes of age……

Monday, July 7th, 2008

This morning I couldn’t take it any more. I had to do something in the studio. That something was finishing Mr. Wonky. Last time you saw him he’d thrown me to the floor and that’s where I’ve been ever since. Well today I kicked his butt and cut off his legs and rewelded them where they’re supposed to be. Anyway, Mr. Wonky doesn’t try to throw me when I sit on him any more.

Learned something new today, again……..

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Today  Learned that what I build, a term that has eluded me till this morning, is “Studio Furniture.”

 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_Furniture

Cool to know I now belong to the group known collectively as “Studio Furnishists.”

Just kidding. I made that  partup.

Hope all is well.

Bee has moved……………

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Bee has moved her stuff to an independent web site:

beehivegirl.blogspot.com

Her stuff is cooler and my site was just dragging her down. So off she went and started her own.  If you came here just for her stuff, that’s OK but do come back to visit.

Well I’m back again…… for now

March, April and June saw the design, fabrication and delivery of the largest project to leave PM Custom ever. M&M Aerospace/ the Display.

See here: www.pmcustom.com/mm-aerospace/

This was the customer link used to look in on progress. As the project neared completion, actual walk-thoughts were done so there are no posts of the final stages. I hope to get back to finishing my Jamaica Dogwood story. The young Stripling was weed wacked by an over zealous lawn crew.

My daughter and I transplanted him to a pot.

He has since resprouted and is waiting completion of a project at her school so that he can be replanted there along with some transplanted paradise trees, pigeon plums, white stoppers and a lignum vitae tree.
